Academy award winning actress Cate Blanchett could have missed the Oscars by a whisker, had she spent some more time with her cocktail and Julia Roberts at the bar. Cate and Julia went to the bar for a drink when the Oscars function stretched well beyond the scheduled time.
The two actresses were involved in small talk over their cocktails when it suddenly crossed Cate's mind that it was just minutes left for the announcement of the best actress. "I was with Julia Roberts in the bar for rather too long and just got back to my seat in time," she said after receiving her award for her performance in Blue Jasmine.
The actress confessed that it nearly slipped her mind that she was nominated in the Best actress category. "The blessing and the curse of this (best actress award) is it happens at the arse end of the evening..So you watch so many other extraordinary people get up there and you lose track of the fact that you're even nominated." the actress said to E! News.
The actress however did not forget to leave a valid message for the film fraternity. She reminded movie makers that audience loves and waits for female centered films and that it does make money as well as awards. "films with a female at the center are niche experiences," the truth is that "audiences want to see them, and they earn money — the world is round, people!" Cate said.
